The MC-750 portable antenna system is already well known among amateur radio operators for its versatility on multiple HF bands. One of the most common questions we receive is:
“Can the MC-750 be used on the 30-meter band (10 MHz)?”
The answer is simple: Yes, it can! With just a small adjustment, the standard MC-750 is ready for 30m operation. Let’s walk through how to set it up.
Why 30 Meters Works with the MC-750
The MC-750 includes a 40-meter loading coil, normally tuned for the 7 MHz band. While the telescopic whip does not have a dedicated marking for 30m, the physics of the system allow it to operate efficiently on 10 MHz as well.
If the 40m coil can tune down to resonance, it can also be adjusted upward into the 30m band—no extra accessories required.
Step 1: Attach the 40m Coil
Connect the 40m coil to the antenna arm as you normally would for operation on 7 MHz. This coil provides the necessary loading for both 40m and 30m operation.

Step 2: Adjust the Telescopic Whip
Here’s the key adjustment:
- Extend the thinnest four sections of the whip fully.
- Then, add about 15 cm more from the next section.
This position will place you very close to resonance around 10 MHz.

💡 Tip: Because every installation is slightly different, this setting is only an approximate starting point.
Step 3: Fine-Tune with an Analyzer
For best results, use an antenna analyzer (such as the SV4401A) to measure the SWR at 10 MHz. Adjust the whip length slightly until you achieve minimum SWR at your target frequency.
Most users will find excellent performance for both CW and digital modes on the 30m band with this setup.

Conclusion
With just the standard MC-750 kit and the 40m coil, you can enjoy reliable operation on the 30m band. Remember these key points:
- Use the 40m coil.
- Extend the whip: 4 thin sections fully + 15 cm more.
- Fine-tune with an analyzer if possible.
That’s all it takes to unlock 30m performance on the MC-750!
Happy DXing on 30 meters, and see you on the air!
